The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn
Sonoma, California, USA

Cosponsored by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE)

"Practical Strategies for Managing CO2 Emissions — Where Are We Going?"

This AIChE/SPE joint workshop continues the discussion from the successful 2008 SPE/AIChE joint workshop, looking farther ahead and examining what has changed over the course of the past year. It draws on upstream and downstream experts to address the boundary-spanning issues that surround greenhouse gas reduction. This workshop will examine current best practices with an eye toward future applications, both domestically and internationally. Attendees will also explore how to implement the strategies for upstream and downstream energy efficiency, carbon dioxide capture, and sequestration. Scientists, engineers, and managers from both industry and academia will share ideas and solutions for executing practical strategies and lessons learned in the arenas of technology, policy, and regulation.

Through brief, informal case studies followed by extended discussion, this workshop will create an atmosphere in which attendees may raise questions and arrive at solutions for the realistic application of CO2 reduction strategies.

New for this workshop will be a half-day tutorial on Sunday, February 22, covering subsurface and surface basics, as well as recapping the discussion from the 2008 SPE/AIChE joint workshop.
