Education & Training
ABET has approved new criteria for the Accreditation of Chemical and BioX Engineering Programs. The approved criteria are for chemical, biochemical, biomolecular, and similarly named engineering programs, with AIChE as the lead society. They also include new criteria for Biological Engineering. Click here to view these criteria. A list of all accredited undergraduate chemical engineering programs whose official names have incorporated "bio" can be found at http://www.aiche.org/sbe/education/chemicalbiologicaleducation.aspx.
SBE offers professional and technical training courses taught by industry experts at selected sites around the country. Some of these courses are offered and organized in conjunction with the American Society for Mechanical Engineers. Find out more about these biotech courses.
To get the most out of your SBE membership, join us at the AIChE national meetings in the spring and fall seasons. Special tutorials provide education on topics such as "Biology for Chemical Engineers."
In addition, many colleges and universities offer training courses for engineers that want to become more knowledgeable about the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries. One example of such course offerings comes from the California State University at Fullerton, who give the courses online. Courses include:
- Process engineering in the pharmaceutical industry
- Biotechnology and bio-processes
- Facilities design and maintenance
- Validation and verification
- Regulatory affairs and quality assurance in the pharmaceutical industry.
