Air & Waste Management Association Scholarship: CT Chapter
Program Description
The Connecticut Chapter of the Air & Waste Management Association conducts a scholarship program to improve knowledge and skills in the fields of air and waste management. Applicants must be Connecticut residents and high school seniors accepted as full-time college students or full-time college students. Applicants must be pursuing or planning to pursue courses of study in science or engineering leading to careers in the environmental field, especially air pollution control or waste management.

The scholarship is a one-year award. To qualify for a second year, individuals must reapply. The application deadline is the first business day following April 15 each year. Application materials must be postmarked by the first business day following April 15. Only complete application packages postmarked by the deadline, including all of the sections described below, will be considered.
Application includes: summary (maximum of two pages) of your college study plan describing the significance and relationship between course work and your career objective in the environmental field; transcripts from high school and college, documentation of full-time enrollment at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university; resume (maximum of one page) of any part-time or full-time work experience including dates of employment, employer, and responsibilities; resume (maximum of one page) of your volunteer and extracurricular activities especially as the experience relates to your course of study and career goals, and two letters of recommendation.
Benefits/Compensation
The Chapter will award one scholarship with a value of $1,000 for the next academic year to the most qualified individual meeting the requirements. Smaller scholarships may be awarded to additional highly qualified individuals.

Alexander Hollaender Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
Program Description

American Society of Landscape Architects: CT Chapter
Program Description
American Society of Landscape Architects- CT Chapter is pleased to provide two scholarships for students entering or pursuing an education in the field of Landscape Architecture. These scholarships are funded by the annual CTASLA Golf Outing through the generous support of its players and sponsors.
Requirements
Scholarship applicants must be a legal resident of the State of Connecticut and enrolled in an accredited environmental education program at the college or university level. Through your college/university, you will provide CTASLA with verification of your status as a student. Payment will be made directly to the college/ university that you select. All decisions made by the Scholarship Committee* are deemed final, including the option not to award a scholarship. Relatives of CT-licensed Landscape Architects and CTASLA members are encouraged to apply. Attach a transcript of your high school or college grades covering six semesters only. The transcript need not be “official.” Provide a brief statement that clearly states why you desire this financial aid, and why you have chosen Landscape Architecture as your field of study. This statement must be signed by the applicant 2006 CTASLA Student Scholarship Form Connecticut Chapter, American Society of Landscape Architects (CTASLA). Provide one signed recommendation letter from a person who knows you personally and can explain why you would succeed in this course of study. No other recommendation or endorsement is required. Application forms must be postmarked between January 1 and March 15 of the year of the scholarship.

EPOC 2005 Environmental Scholarship
Program Description
EPOC recognizes its duty to assist in the education of individuals planning a career in the environmental industry. Consequently, the EPOC Environmental Scholarship Fund was established in 1998 to assist Connecticut residents who are attending a college or university (CT colleges or out of state colleges) and have declared majors pertinent to the environmental field.
Requirements

Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc.
Program Description
FGCC awards scholarship monies to applicants who are legal residents of the State of Connecticut and who are studying at a Connecticut college or university in the fields of Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Conservation, Forestry, Botany, Agronomy, Plant Pathology, Environmental Control, City Planning, Land Management, and/or allied subjects.
Requirements
An applicant must be entering his/her junior year, senior year, or be a graduate student, have a 3.0 grade point average or above, and be in financial need. Applications are usually available in April and may be obtained from The Federation office, the college Financial Aid Office, or the Scholarship Committee Chairman and must be returned to the Scholarship Chairman by July 1.
Benefits/Compensation
The number of scholarships given and the amounts are dependent on how much has been given by the participating garden clubs, but is not less than $1,000.00.

The National Garden Clubs Award
Program Description

Friends of the Earth Fellowships in Environmental Policy, Journalism, Communications, and Marketing
Program Description
Each fellow or intern works closely with project directors researching, writing, lobbying, and assisting with administrative support. There is a six-month commitment.

Oppenheimer Environmental Fund Individual Award
Program Description
The Oppenheimer Environmental Fund promotes the greater appreciation and understanding of the environment through supporting projects by young people in Northwest Connecticut.
An award of $500 to an individual who has gone above and beyond his/her job requirements in his/her involvement in environmental issues, specifically in involving young people in the Region One School District (NW CT) in the environment.
Requirements
Teachers may be nominated, principals, or individuals in the community who have, for instance, volunteered their time to lead students in an environmental project involving the school or an environmental agency such as the Audubon Society or the Housatonic Valley Association.
Nominations should come in writing from teachers, principals, superintendents, environmental agency directors. Nominations should be in the form of a letter outlining the reasons why the nominee is thought to be deserving of the award. Nominations should be received by April 15. Nominations will be reviewed by the Oppenheimer Environmental Fund Advisory Board. To apply send a 1-3 page letter explaining the project; its impact on the agricultural community; amount of funding requested; total project budget.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Risk Assessment and Environmental Indicators
Program Description
The fellowship is for individuals interested in risk assessment and environmental health policy. The Fellow will work with the Director of the Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, and with other members of the faculty on one or more projects related to risk assessment and environmental policy.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills and possess a Ph.D. in toxicology, environmental health or a related discipline from an accredited university. Safety, Health and Environmental Scholarships (American Society of Safety Engineers Foundation)
Program Description
Providing college funds to students entering the occupational safety, health and environmental (SH&E) profession, the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Foundation today announced that nearly $90,000 is available for undergraduate and graduate scholarships.
The ASSE Foundation's 2005-2006 scholarships are for students pursuing a degree in occupational safety and health, safety engineering, safety management, occupational health nursing, occupational medicine, risk management, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, fire safety, environmental safety, environmental health or other safety-related fields.
Scholarships range from general criteria to regional-based, diversity and specific areas of study within safety.
Requirements
Applicants must be student members of ASSE, unless otherwise specified. Undergraduates must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 out of 4.0, are currently enrolled in 12 or more semester hours, and have completed at least 60 semester hours. Graduates must have a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0, are currently enrolled in nine or more semester hours, and have an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0.
Students submit one application to be considered for the various scholarships.
Types of Awards
The new undergraduate and graduate $1,000 scholarships to be offered this year are the
Harry Taback 9/11 Memorial Scholarship named in honor of an ASSE member lost in the World Trade Center attacks, and the Medina Scholarship for Hispanics in Safety for bilingual Spanish-English SH&E students.
The three undergraduate scholarships for students with an emphasis in construction safety include the $5,000 Bechtel Foundation Scholarship for Safety and Health, the $3,500 Washington Group International Safety Scholarship, and the new $1,000 ASSE Construction Safety Scholarship, which is funded through the revenue of ASSE's comprehensive text Construction Safety Management and Engineering.
Also, the Liberty Mutual Scholarship Fund will award a $3,000 scholarship, the Marsh Risk Consulting Scholarship Program will award a $5,000 undergraduate scholarship and the United Parcel Service (UPS) Foundation Scholarship Program will award various undergraduate and diversity scholarships, ranging from $4,000 to $6,000.
Honoring the ASSE members lost in the September 2001 attacks, the Foundation will award a $1,000 America Responds Memorial Scholarship to a U.S. citizen pursuing an SH&E undergraduate degree.
The Thompson Scholarship for Women in Safety is a $1,000 graduate SH&E scholarship available for female ASSE members and non-members.
Honoring a dedicated safety educator and ASSE member who passed away in 1999, the James P. Kohn Memorial Scholarship program will award one $2,000 scholarship to a student pursuing a graduate degree in occupational safety and health.
The ASSE Foundation will award several other undergraduate scholarships including two Gulf Coast Past President's Scholarship at $1,000 for part-time or full-time safety undergraduates, and the $2,000 Carter J. Kerk Distinguished Service Award Scholarship for undergraduates.
The New England area includes the following ASSE chapters: Greater Boston, Connecticut Valley, Granite State, Maine, Nutmeg and Worcester County. All of these scholarships offer a $1,000 award.

Program Description
One-year grants are available for highly qualified scholars who are pursuing graduate level work in environmental sciences or related studies in a New England college or university.

Program Description
The Windstar Foundation, co-founded by John Denver and Thomas Crum, has consistently sought ways, "To inspire individuals to make responsible choices and take direct personal actions to achieve a peaceful and environmentally sustainable future." Delaware Solid Waste Authority John P. "Pat" Healy Scholarship
Program Description
The Higher Education Commission administers 22 state-sponsored financial aid programs and 9 private scholarship programs to help Delawareans continue their education after high school. Applicants for all state-funded programs must be Delaware residents and U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens.
The 2006-07 Schedule for Financial Aid Nights provides dates and locations of informative events that will help you plan and pay for college. Representatives from college financial aid offices will provide information about applying for state and federal aid at these free sessions. In addition, volunteers from the financial aid community will help you complete your 2007?8 FAFSA on Sunday, February 11, 2007, at Delaware Tech Stanton, Terry and Owens campuses. Diversity Fellowships in Environmental Reporting (DFER) September 2006-June 2007
Program Description
The Diversity Fellowships in Environmental Reporting is a 42-week fellowship program that provides six minority journalists with an opportunity to learn basic science, gain environmental research and reporting skills, and apply new knowledge and skills in a 38-week reporting assignment
Requirements
Eligible journalists must have no less than one year of journalism experience, U.S. citizenship, and a demonstrated interest in improving their environmental and science reporting skills.
Benefits/Compensation
The Diversity Fellowships program consists of four weeks of independent study at the University of Rhode Island's Graduate School of Oceanography with science faculty mentors, including an orientation and immersion workshop that integrates science and environmental justice issues; and 38 weeks of reporting on science and the environment with reporter and editor mentors. Fellows may work in radio, television, and print outlets including The Providence Journal; The Christian Science Monitor; NOVA Science Television/NOVA online; Talk of the Nation: Science Friday; Earth & Sky Radio Series and Website; National Geographic Television; PRI's The World; and NPR-member station, WBUR.
The fellowship includes $28,000 stipend paid over ten months and limited travel support.

Edward C. Davis Undergraduate Tuition Scholarships
Program Description
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Delaware offers a number of one-year tuition scholarships for prospective college freshmen. These scholarships may be continued for up to four years for students who attain established grade criteria.
Requirements
Eligible students are single Delaware residents who choose Civil and Environmental Engineering as a major; are at or near the top of their high school graduating class; have an SAT score in the upper range of Delaware applicants.
To be considered for this award, all you need to do is apply for admission to the University of Delaware by January 1 of your senior year of high school. All unmarried Delaware residents who are admitted for the fall semester as entering freshmen in Civil and Environmental Engineering will be automatically considered.
Benefits/Compensation
The Committee of 100 Academic Scholarship provides $2,000 each year to a resident of New Castle County who is graduating from high school and intends to major in business, economics, or a related field. Member-companies, firms, and organizations contribute each year to The Committee of 100 Scholarship Fund to enable the granting of additional scholarships, the amounts of which vary from year to year. The Committee of 100 Academic Scholarship is awarded each year at the May Dinner Meeting, which is held the third Tuesday of in May. Scholarship applications are due April 1st.
